Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
